WSYF ‘expels’ family following assault incident

Dimapur, September 9 (MExN): The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has issued a press communiqué expelling one person and his family members from all Sumi-inhabited areas of the Western region following an alleged assault incident at Ghoshito Village under Niuland District on September 7.

According to the communiqué, the incident involved a “grievous assault” on a local resident, reportedly by one Bijay Das and his family, who hail from Hojai, Assam.

The WSYF stated that the family has been ordered to vacate the region on or before September 13 and to compensate the victim for damages and medical expenses. It cautioned that failure to comply would absolve the organisation of responsibility for any “untoward consequences.”

The communiqué, issued by WSYF General Secretary Botoho Achumi and Vice President Mughaka Chophy, further warned that any individual, group, or organisation providing shelter, protection, or assistance to the expelled family would be deemed complicit and “invite stern and irreversible action.”

It also directed all village authorities under the Western region to remain vigilant and ensure that the expelled family does not seek refuge within their jurisdiction.
