YAA halts work on NH 155 alleging poor workmanship

Dimapur, December 27 (MExN): The Yimchungrü Akherü Arihako (YAA) Tuensang has alleged that the on-going construction of the National Highway-155 between Tuensang and K. Wongthu village is “quite unsatisfactory.” The YAA said that its officials have inspected the construction on several occasions and has even held meetings with the concerned department and the contractor/ firm to execute the work as per the specification mentioned in the Detail Project Report (DPR) but the latter has failed to do so.

Drawing the attention of the State Government and the concerned department, YAA in a press release issued by the President Z Throngshe and Speaker S Yansomong stated that on November 28, the contractor/firm and department officials held a meeting where the department as well as the contractor “assured quality workmanship” from that day onwards. However, YYA stated that “there is no sign of improvement of work rather it is getting worse.” Therefore, the YAA added that it is “left with no option but compelled to halt the further execution of work indefinitely in the larger interest and welfare of the people.”

The YAA has appealed the concerned authority from the Chief Engineer’s office to conduct “spot verification” at the earliest and also take necessary corrective measures to ensure quality work. It is also warned that if preparation of bill for the said work is made and clearance certificate issued, the concerned department or engineer of the department shall bear the risk and added that YAA shall not be held responsible for any course of follow-up action.
