Shamator, June 12 (MExN): A community-driven ‘No to Drugs and Alcohol’ programme was held in Yakor village on June 11, reaffirming the village’s declaration as a ‘drugs and alcohol-free’ zone, a resolution passed by the Yakor Village Council in January 2026.

The event was organised by the Citizen Union, Yakor Village, in collaboration with all local stakeholders, including the Village Council, Students’ Union, Mothers’ Union and the Church, stated a DIPR report.

Delivering the keynote address, Advisor of the Citizen Union, Apong Janger, expressed gratitude to all sections of the community for coming together and standing firm by their resolution. He urged every citizen to abide by the village’s unanimous decision and lead by example, so that the message reaches the rest of the fellow community.

He further appealed all villages under “Yimkhiungland” to adopt the resolution to make their homeland free from drugs, alcohol and tobaccos.

The resolution by Yakor village follows a larger directive from the Yimkhiung Youth Organisation (YYO), which on October 31, 2025, passed a resolution at its headquarters in Pungro, declaring the entire Yimkhiung Land as a “Drugs Free Zone.” The YYO’s resolution has been endorsed to all Village Councils for implementation.

The June 11 programme at Yakor was chaired by H Yankiumong, President of the Citizen Union. Short speeches were delivered by representatives of the Yakor Village Council, Yakor Baptist Church, YLASA Yakor, NVG, and the Yimkhiung Students’ Union (YSU).

The event concluded with the collective slogan “No to Drugs and Alcohol.”
