DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 14 (MExN): NCP president Nagaland unit, Neiba Ndang on Wednesday called upon the students of Faith Theological College Dimapur to become “server” to the society reminding them that they were “called to serve and not to be served.”
Gracing the foundation day of the college as the chief guest, Ndang said it was the young people who could bring about the change which the society “so desperately” requires today. He said the society need genuine spirit-filled people to come out from theological institutes well-equipped with the power of the Word to change the mindset of the people, families, Church and the nation. He encouraged the students to prepare themselves for what God has in store for them and put on the whole armor of God. Ndang expressed the hope that the students were convicted and certain of what God has called them to do. “If not, then you need to be sure why and what for you have come to this institute because theological studies is not like any other secular studies where the students after passing out go looking for different jobs for their survival and to make their own destiny,” Ndang added.
However, Ndang rued that many Naga theologians after completing degrees live life like any other degree holders. He also noted that many Naga youngsters who go out of state to pursue their studies start living in unpleasant and unacceptable ways. Ndang said theological students were often seen behaving in the same ways as any other ordinary people. According to Ndang, such behaviours have degraded the name of the society and the Naga people.
Stating that they (students) did not land up in the college by accident but by the plans of God, he encouraged them to constantly focus on their goal as the Almighty was behind them all the way.
Guest of honour, Atu Zumvu OC East Police Station Dimapur stressed on the need for the society to imbibe in children and students with better ethics and morals if the people has to ensure that the Church not only survives but flourishes. Atu said this after pointing out that children brought up in Sunday Schools were seldom brought up before the Courts of Law and that many of the criminal offences were committed by Christians. He expressed apprehension that the society was nurturing a generation lacking the fear of the Lord and therefore do not have the respect for law and order. He said criminal offences were not a daily affair but hourly experiences leaving one to wonder about such things happening in a Christian state. Atu said theological colleges were in a better position to educate the students with not only religion but morality, ethics and theological virtues.
“Missionaries teach people about the Holy Book and Police officers therefore discharge our duties and performances are complementary,” Atu said. He added that if the Police and Missionaries were successful in their respective activities, they could enormously contribute towards making the earth a better place to live in.
Founder principal of Faith Theological College, Rev. Dr. S. Gangte delivered the welcome address and also presented a brief report of the college. Students of the college presented special numbers, choreography and skit.
