3rd edition of Samvidhan Live! The Jagrik Project launched
Morung Express News Dimapur | December 11 “You are the strongest voice here. It is our duty to teach our family about fundamental rights and duties,” Guest Speaker Limasenla Longkumer, Nagaland State Legal Service Authority (NSLSA) said while exhorting the students. She was speaking at the launching campaign of Samvidhan Live! The Jagrik Project at Tourist Lodge Conference Hall, Dimapur on December 11.
The project is an initiative of ComMutiny-The Youth Collective (CYC) with Community Avenue Network (CAN) Youth, now a third edition targeting the adolescents from five schools namely - Purana Bazaar Government School, Viphuho Foundation School, Millinial Vision School, Sematilla Government School and Dhansiripar Government School. Limasenla stated that the Constitution is a living book to help us voice out against all sorts of discrimination and injustice in the society. “However we are still ignorant of our rights and duties. It is our duty to let others know of them,” she asserted the students.
“We are brought up in such society that discrimination is normal in the family,” Limasenla added, elucidating on instances of the Naga society which is patriarchal in nature. She addressed on the issues of child labor, child trafficking, child abuse and how the young students can help the victims in the locality by reporting it to Child Line Office and to Dimapur District Legal Services Authority, who are always ready to help the victims.
She further stressed on the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009, where the Government is providing free education to downtrodden children. “You have to reach out to School communities and question them when they charge fees in Government Schools,” she asserted the young students.
This nationwide campaign was started in 2016, where the young Jagriks (meaning aware) are taught on Constitutional awareness through varied tasks bringing the Constitution to their cities, villages and streets. Social and self action tasks are undertaken by the Jagriks such as spending a night in a homeless shelter, organizing health camps, reversing gender roles, interacting with religious leaders etc.
The programme included speeches from Jenpu Rongmei, Chief Functionary CAN Youth; Father Jerry Thomas; from previous Jagriks and vote of thanks by Sentiwati, Anchor Jagrik Project. The newly selected students were inducted into the Jagrik Project through an oath taking ceremony. Among them, two students will be selected to represent Nagaland during the Republic Day 2019 in New Delhi.
