Yung Aung led NSCN (K) reiterates stand on Naga political issue

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 21 (MExN): The Yung Aung led NSCN (K) today reiterated its “refusal to accept anything less than full sovereignty” for the Nagas and claimed that the Government of India tagging it as an unlawful organization under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act is “only a desperate attempt to divert attention and mislead the world.”

A press release from the MIP of the Yung Aung led NSCN (K) accused the Government of India of “exploiting the Naga political situation to benefit her purposes and create discord among Nagas. It is her political tactic and preemptive policy to create a never-ending problem among Nagas.”

It claimed that the ongoing “political honeymoon between GOI and Naga peace groups is bound to end in a disastrous failure.” “The growing tensions, distrust and confusion within the pro-talk groups is the result of her insincerity and artificiality in dealing with the Nagas,” the group claimed.

It further stated that the “these Naga political groups themselves have lost their political wisdom as they have long since deleted the word 'sovereignty' from their national diaries.”

“Having succumbed to India's empty promises and threats, their ideologies are now confined to the arbitrarily drawn state and International boundaries. Sadly their insatiable appetite for quick money and luxurious lifestyles has beclouded their political visions,” the Yung Aung led NSCN (K) claimed.

The group stated that “it is up to the wisdom of the Naga people to make a choice between full sovereignty and dependency solution.”

It meanwhile stated that since the beginning of the Naga movement “Nagas are reeling” under “draconian laws and other repressive acts.” It said that the “international community has slowly started to witness the totality of India's atrocity in the Naga country and the whole of WESEA region.”

The group called upon the world to condemn “India's hegemony” and asserted that “in accordance with the United Nations charter the indigenous people have the inherent right to resist in every possible way and determine their own future.”

While stating that the “Nagas are bleeding” under laws like AFSPA, UAPA, NIA Act, Disturbed Areas Act etc, the Yung Aung led NSCN (K) said that “Nagas have time and again declared that Naga political issue as never India's internal or constitutional issue.”

“Hence, we denounce such atrocious laws and acts which are illegal and clear contravention of international laws and human rights,” it added.
