Dimapur, August 13 (MExN): The Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) and the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-Independent) have jointly called for a ‘boycott’ of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations and a ‘general strike’ on August 15.

A joint statement issued here by Col Retd .Joseph Lamkang, Deputy Kilonser, MIP Affairs, Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) said the Asom, Nagaland and the Western South-East Asia (WeSEA) region will not remain “bonafide unless we don't safeguard standing shoulder to shoulder at such a juncture.”

Accordingly, it appealed “all political, non-political, national parties and freedom-loving people of Asom, Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal to boycott any program scheduled” for I-Day. There will be a “total bandh” from 1M to 6PM of August 15, it added.

However, there are no restrictions on emergency departments, media and religious activities during the bandh, it added.
