•    Bans sale of ancestral land to outside communities

Jalukie, April 4 (MExN): The Zeme Council North East India (ZCNEI) has adopted a series of resolutions on “Zeme unity, communal solidarity, ancestral land protection and matters relating to the Asalu Zeliangrong Region” at a Consultative Meeting held at Women Hall, Jalukie.

The council firmly resolved to safeguard and preserve Zeme ancestral land and its natural resources under all circumstances, categorically and “opposed the establishment of villages within Zeme ancestral territory by anyone other than the Zeliangrong community,” the ZCNEI Media Cell said in a press release.

The house issued a stern caution against the indiscriminate sale of vast tracts of ancestral land to outside communities, asserting that such land is inseparable from the history, heritage and sacred legacy of the forefathers. “Any attempt to distort historical identity or erode communal rights through large-scale land acquisition shall be firmly resisted,” it asserted.

On matters of unity, the gathering unanimously resolved that the Zeme community shall remain steadfast and resolute in representing itself across all organisations, while upholding and strengthening the bond of brotherhood within the Zeliangrong fraternity. The house also resolved to foster deeper harmony, mutual confidence and enduring fraternal relations with the Rongmai and Liangmai brothers.

Deliberating on the creation of CAA NC Hills, Assam, under the Asalu Zeliangrong Region, the house acknowledged the prevailing grievances and circumstances in Assam, noting that the arrangement is presently situation-based and temporary in nature. It advised all concerned to work in cooperation and mutual understanding with the Asalu Zeliangrong Region.

The council further resolved that ZCNEI must be duly consulted on any matter or decision concerning the Zeme community, whether involving the Government of India or Naga authorities.
