Zunheboto, September 4 (MExN): The Zunheboto District Badminton Association (ZDBA) has recorded a strong performance at the 48th Inter-District & State Badminton Championship 2026 held at Mon, winning four titles and finishing runners-up in two events.

Zunheboto players emerged champions in the Under-13 girls’ doubles, with Likupu and Linokivi claiming the title, while Liviya and Al. won the Under-15 girls’ doubles. Liviya also secured the Under-15 girls’ singles title. In the Under-17 boys’ doubles, Hivi and Titoka emerged champions.

Mughakivi finished runner-up in both the Under-15 and Under-19 boys’ singles categories.

The association attributed the achievement to the leadership of ZDBA president Kihika G. Sumi, executive member of the Nagaland Badminton Association David Sema, the technical team and the dedication of the young players who overcame several challenges.

Sumi said the players had demonstrated that they could excel despite limited infrastructure and playing opportunities.

“It is our players who have proven to be the best. Though we still struggle with only one stadium in Zunheboto with limited playing time and overcrowded courts, our players have made the best of what we have,” he said. The association said the achievement would encourage its junior players and strengthen efforts to promote badminton in the district.
