New Delhi, January 27 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Welfare Association Delhi (ZWAD), in collaboration with the Zeliangrong Student Union Delhi (ZSUD) and My Home India, observed the 111th birth anniversary of Rani Gaidinliu in New Delhi on January 26.
Santlal Yadav, Trustee, My Home India, attended the programme as the chief guest and paid floral tribute to the legendary freedom fighter and leader. Candles were also lit in her honour.
Addressing the gathering, Numal Dusad, In-charge, Northeast Activities, Delhi and NCR, highlighted My Home India’s continued support for students and youth from the Northeast residing in Delhi.
Speaking on the life and struggles of Gaidinliu, the resource person for the event and social worker Mathiupuang Gonmei recalled her resistance against British rule and her vision for a unified administrative unit for the Zeliangrong people of Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland. He urged the youth to remain united and work towards realising Ranima’s ideals, while emphasising the importance of conveying her vision to higher levels of the Government of India through platforms such as My Home India.
The programme also featured cultural performances, including a traditional dance by the Rongmei Cultural Dance Troupe (Delhi) and musical presentations by Zeliangrong artists. Senior advisors, executives, and members of the organising bodies attended the observance.
The event reaffirmed the commitment of ZWAD and ZSUD to uphold the legacy of late Gaidinliu and to work towards the unity and welfare of the Zeliangrong people, stated a press release from ZWAD.
