Zeliangrong public resent undergrounds’ actions

JALUKIE, NOV 17 (MExN): Public of Peren district held a meeting today at Jalukie town to discuss the prevailing law and order situation due to the continuing factional clashesbetween the different underground groups.

The meeting was convened by the Zeliangrong Baudi, and was attended by all the organizations, civil society leaders and the public from the district.

The meeting had a prolonged deliberation on the prevailing law and order problem arising out of the factional fight between the two NSCN factions especially in Jalukie and Athibung area.

While condemning the continuing factional clashes in the area, the meeting appealed to all the underground groups to release their rival cadres safely to the public in case any of the cadre is abducted, instead of killing them.

The public also appealed to the underground cadres to restrain themselves from moving around freely   with arms in civilian areas, but abide by the ceasefire ground rules and remain confined to their respective designated camps.

The meeting also noted the harassment meted out by underground cadres to village leaders and public, and appealed to the latter to respect the voice of people, maintaining that no autocratic or dictatorship have survived anywhere in the world and without the support and sympathy of the people, no cause stands.

Zeliangrong Baudi president, Dennis Elung also urged upon the Zeliangrong people to ‘practice what they preach,’ instead of speaking something and doing the other thing. He also called upon village authorities and Jalukie Town Council to deal with the law and order situation firmly in their respective jurisdictions.

The meeting also came down heavily on the NSCN-IM for always trying to ignore the land ownership of the Zeliangrong people on their general headquarter, the Hebron Camp. The meeting further said that Zeliangrong Baudi has written a number of representations to the NSCN-IM authority to acknowledge that their ‘Hebron Camp’ is located in Peren district, and not in Dimapur, which the latter is fond of using in any official communiqués. However, the NSCN-IM has so far turned a deaf ear to their request.
