Dimapur, Nov 20 (MExN): Elaborate preparations are on to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the re-establishment of Makuilongdi, the oldest village of Zeliangrong people in Senapati district of Manipur, on December 1 under the theme, “Unity in Brotherhood.”
Dr. S Xavier Pamei, Secretary, Celebration Committee in a press release issued today said that such celebration would be an occasion not only to commemorate the re-establishment of the Makuilongdi village but also to imbibe the wisdom and zeal of great ancestors of Zeliangrong people and make their descendents great. “The celebration will also promote our rich cultural heritage and strengthen our relationship, he said.
The release reads: “Nestled amidst emerald hills and above 25 km North West of Senapati town is an obscure Zeliangrong village which bears its original name ‘Makuilongdi’ the confluence of Zeliangrong migration after their departure from ‘Makhel’ and more importantly the cradle of Zeliangrong culture. The historic Makhel village where from the Nagas got dispersed lies to the North East of Makuilongdi.
The present re-established Makuilongdi village on 01-05-1979, though small comparatively, is a faithful remnant of the glory that was Makuilongdi. Tradition has it that during its heyday Makuilongdi had a total of 7777 households.”
In the wake of the upcoming silver jubilee, the organising committee has urged the Zeliangrong national workers and NGOs to cooperate and support the committee in their endeavour to make the jubilee a grand success. The committee also appealed to all the factions to shun violence in any form and to attend the function without any reservation.
“Your kind cooperation will go a long way to promote a sense of brotherhood among the Zeliangrong community residing in the states of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland. And it will also help us to redeem the loss glory of Makuilongdi – the cradle of Zeliangrong culture,” the release said.
Meanwhile, the organizing committee also informed to all the members of Zeliangrong tribe that the Census of Zeliangrong households is being carried out, while also requesting them to cooperate with the assigned officials and pay Rs 10 each household by November 25.
