Dimapur, June 15 (MExN): Zhadima Village Youth and Sports Organization (ZVYSO) today denied allegations associated with the June 13 standoff in 2-Dimapur II constituency over change in the designation of two polling stations. The ZVYSO issued a statement today.
Among others, the organization denied allegations that ‘unruly mob equipped with lethal weapons from outside’ created tensions in the area. This allegation is ‘highly condemnable’ and ‘a propaganda created’ by the joint forum (of six Dimapur colonies agitating against the change in the name of the polling stations), the clarification stated.
On the allegation of ‘impersonation of voters,’ the ZVYSO termed the charge as “totally false” and holding no water. The organization claimed that “the voter (s) were the genuine electorates of Industrial village, Razhüphe, Dimapur, who has voluntarily came out to take their photographs.”
The Zhadima youths said they went to meet one TL Angami of Zhadima village “after having received information that TL Angami life was under threat and his houses were to be destroyed by the six colonies youths.”
The ZVYSO asserted in the statement – “On reports of the information, the Zhadima village youths paid a visit to him and to protect his life and ‘not to create any tension or trouble in the area’. The youths had never even gone beyond the gates of TL Angami and were confined in the house. In midst , the mobs mostly youths from the six colonies, came to the gate of TL Angami, started challenging and pelted stones to the Zhadima youths, who were present at the TL Angami house, which resulted in beating and injury to Zhadima youths, in the process destroyed and damages two buses which belong to Zhadima village.”
The organization said “all the vandalism was committed in-presence of the DC, Dimapur and SP, Dimapur” but at the request of the district administration to the Zhadima youths to leave the said Angami’s residence, the youths left, the statement said.
The ZVYSO said the six colonies should not ‘target’ the said Angami but approach the government for remedial measures ‘if they have any grievances.’
In the event of any untoward incident to the stated individual, the Dimapur district administration and the ‘six colonies leaders’ shall be fully responsible, the ZVYSO added. ZVYSO president Roko Angami and general secretary Visielie Sanchu appended the statement.
