Kiphire, December 4 (MExN): The 3rd Edition of the Zisaji Presidency College (ZPC) Open Volleyball Championship 2025 commenced on Thursday at the college premises in Kiphire with Rozy Sangtam, SDO (Civil) Kiphire, as the guest of honour, while the closing ceremony is scheduled for December 5 with Dr Phyobenthung, Principal of ZPC, as the special guest.
Addressing the gathering, Rozy Sangtam congratulated the principal and the organising team for conducting the event as a community engagement programme under NEP 2020, and encouraged the youth to utilise the opportunity to enhance their skills, talent and become better persons, better leaders and better citizens of society. She called attention to issues of substance abuse among the youth in Kiphire and urged the players to act as torch bearers against substance abuse. Quoting Billie Jean King, she said, “Sport teaches you character, it teaches you to play by the rules, it teaches you to know what it feels like to win and lose. It teaches you about life,” and stated that through this event there would be a positive impact on their lives while encouraging the teams to play with respect and by the rules. She further urged the students and youth of Kiphire to rise as they are the hope for the future of the district, and stressed on the championship motto, “Excel to Excellence,” and the college motto, “Dedication for Advancement,” encouraging them not to waste time but to make use of every moment to improve themselves and contribute to the college, their family and society.
The programme was chaired by Shumong Tikhir, Assistant Professor, and the invocation was offered by Martha Tsumon, Assistant Professor. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Phyobenthung, followed by a special appearance from Rebecca V, winner of ZPC Got Talent 2025, while the oath was administered by Rhi Rhi, Assistant Professor, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Purna Chandra Mishra, Vice Principal of ZPC.
The event features ten participating teams from Kiphire District, and the first match began with the standing champions Spark Boys Amahator playing against United Fable Club. Representatives of various unions and departments from the district attended the inaugural programme, and the event aims to inspire youth in Kiphire to uncover their talents while fostering sportsmanship and a shared commitment to community development for a brighter future in the district.
The sponsors for the 3rd Edition Open Volleyball Championship 2025 include BJP Kiphire District, Nagaland for the Champion position, T Sejomong Sangtam, LDA Medical Department Kiphire, and Lisepi Sangtam, Assistant Director Directorate of Higher Education Kohima for the First Runner-up position, R L Akamba, Founder of ZPC for the Second Runner-up position, Atsaba Sangtam, LDA Land Resource Department Kiphire for Best Discipline Team, and Khumkise Santam as Best Player, while the referee is Singtangthongrὕ Enterprise Kiphire.
