ZRSU seminar on Clean Election and Child Rights

Zunheboto, June 21 (MExN): The Zunheboto Range Students’ Union (ZRSU) organised a seminar on ‘Clean Election and Child Rights’ under the banner of ‘Beauty with a Purpose Project’ on June 21. The project is an initiative of Lika Chophy, the reigning Miss Nagaland 1st Runner up, Miss Sumi 2021 and district Election SVEEP Icon Zunheboto.

ZRSU media cell in a press note stated that the first speaker, Advocate Khetoholi Yepthomi LCPO, District Child Protection Unit spoke about Child Rights, Child Abuse, Child Labour and the various Acts under Child Rights like the Juvenile justice Act and POSCO.

Awareness on Clean Election was delivered by Dr Vihuto T Assumi, General Secretary Sumi Hoho. He said that corrupt election system is the root cause of all the corruptions and “we should not only blame the politicians but also blame ourselves for consuming and selling our rights during election.” 

He was optimistic that through awareness and education, one day the practice of Clean Election will prevail in our society.

A talk on Child Rights and Clean Election was also delivered by Lika Chophy. She said that so many underprivileged children are educationally deprived and many children are victimised in the form of domestic help. Chophy talked about the role of parents and the society as a whole in protecting the children. She said, “Children have become the most vulnerable section of our society and change of our mentality is a must which should go beyond our conservative thinking.”

On Clean Election, she said, ‘our society has forgotten the true concept of election’ and that ‘selling our votes during election is selling our rights and selling our rights is selling ourselves.’ 

The seminar was chaired by ZRSU, Vice President, Viki k Zhimo and welcome address was delivered by ZRSU President, Gihuka K Zhimo. The session begins with a prayer by Veto Sumi Associate Pastor SBCZ. It was attended by leaders from various civil societies, NGOs and students.
