Kohima, December 29 (MExN): The 52nd general session of the Zhavame Students’ Union (ZSU) was held on December 27 and 28, 2011 under the theme ‘Enterprising Students.’ Addressing the inaugural function as chief guest, Advisor, New and Renewable Energy, Art and Culture and Science and Technology, Deo Nukhu appreciated the office bearers of the Union for undertaking several activities during their tenure.
He further called upon the students to excel in their studies while stating that it is an age of specialization today. He urged them to expand their visions and dedicate themselves to that goal and study well while also throwing emphasis on the importance of having a good primary foundation.
Retired Deputy Director for School Education, Lecho Krocha in his exhortation recollected the formation of the Union during their time with just a bunch of school children. Observing several changes since then, he said that today “every door that opens has a child that goes to school.” Expressing happiness in this regard, he also urged that education has to be taken forward for development of the society.
Mosonyi Domeh, Senior Advisor, Chakhesang Youth Front who was the valedictory guest for the general session asked the students to know their place and also understand the struggles and sacrifices made by their parents in educating them. In the meantime, he exhorted that without education in the modern age, one’s life is half-successful and urged the students to give top priority to their books.
Highlights of the session included extempore speech, debate on the topic “Government Sector: The future of Gen X” with Thebi Shupao and Rekha Dukru as leaders for the motion and against group respectively, and presentation of special music, dance, folk tunes etc. Meritorious students in the university level and high school level were also awarded.
