One case is pending before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) in Zunheboto district, while the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) registered 22 Children in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP) cases with no pending cases, an official said on Wednesday.
District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Ruzonuo Rita Aye, while presenting a report on child-related issues during an awareness programme on Child Rights and Child Protection here, said the Child Helpline 1098 in Zunheboto has received 41 calls so far.
The programme was organised by the Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit, Zunheboto, at the VDB Hall. It highlighted the status of cases handled by the CWC and JJB from April 2025 to March 2026.
Aye said key interventions undertaken by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) included sensitisation and awareness programme on child rights and protection at the block level, poster campaigns on child labour and child trafficking, family restoration and follow-up initiatives, regular inspection of Child Care Institutions (CCIs), placement of destitute children in child care institutions through CWC, and sponsorship support to CNCP.
She said Zunheboto district has four Child Care Institutions, two NGO-run homes for CNCP children, one Observation Home for Children in Conflict with Law, and one Specialised Adoption Agency.
The DCPO urged people to dial 1098 or contact the CWC, Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU), or DCPU whenever a child in distress is found.
