Zunheboto dist farmers pass resolution

DIMAPUR, MAY 23 (MExN): The Zunheboto district farmers have passed a resolution for the year of farmers. It has resolved among others a community water harvesting pond for irrigation, micro credit linkages for SHGs and Cooperative societies. The resolution also put a suggestion to the district administration and Sumi Hoho (NGO) to impose ban on imported livestock and to encourage rearing of livestock locally.

Other points in the resolution include areas of machineries and infrastructures and the need for a cold storage at Zunheboto Town, APMC godown, Fruit processing unit and Marketing shed.

The farmers also identified the cultivation of orange as a long term objective for the district and the potential areas include Coco area, Akuluto-V.K range, Pughoboto range, Saptiqa range. Other long term goals also include, integrated Organic Farming at Atoizu and Zunheboto, establishment of Dairy farming at Zunheboto, Akuluto(Sutemi), conservation of rivers, Agri link road along the Tizu, Tsutha, Kiliki, Langki and Tishi rivers, irrigation at Asuto and Akuluto-VK Range, Mithun rearing at Satakha, Satoi and Aghunato ranges, regulated cattle grazing, community water harvesting pond for irrigation and micro credit linkages for SHGs and Cooperative societies.

For the medium term, the farmers resolved on Passion fruit, Cardamom and kiwi with potential Areas identified at Satakha, Satoi, Aghunato, Suruhuto, Zunheboto &  Apukito Ranges; medicinal and aromatic plants such as Patchouli – Coco area, Akuluto-VK and Ghathashi area, Rose geranium at Aghunato, Suruhuto, Satakha and Zunheboto, Lemon grass and citronella at Akuluto-VK, Coco, Ghukiye and Tichiba-Sapoti areas, Stivea at Zunheboto district, Bamboo cultivation at Zunheboto district.

As short term, it resolved to go in for Soya bean- Maize district, Ginger at Pughoboto, Coco, Akuluto-VK, Hoshepu-Tokiye, Saptiqha and lower range of Satakha, and vegetables and other cash crops at Zunheboto district. 

It was decided to provide guidelines to the VDBs to earmark some percentage of fund allocated to VDB against Agri and allied activities during the year.
