The District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) held a meeting on December 12 at the DC’s Conference Hall, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto Dharam Raj, IAS.
The meeting focused on officially launching an internship programme in the district including all the line departments in the district, making Zunheboto the first district to introduce such an initiative for college students, for whom internships have now become mandatory.
“We wanted to launch it officially in the district. Why not be the first and set an example?” added DC Dharam Raj. Raj stressed that the programme would not require significant resources beyond providing interns with basic seating arrangements in offices. “With the implementation of NEP 2020, internships are now compulsory. We all know there is a shortage of manpower, and having interns will provide an additional helping hand and bring innovation. It’s a win–win situation for everyone,” Raj said.
He further noted that since internships are required for college students now, other departments could also be included in the programme.
Earlier in the meeting, the Uni Star Club Suruhuto and the New Era Educational Society were nominated under the Societies Registration Act, 1960. However, their approval was deferred to the next meeting.
Dr Antoly Swu, Dy CMO Zunheboto, and Hokisha Chophy, District Programme Officer, DISHA Zunheboto, also emphasised the need to involve the medical department in their programmes in order to spread awareness.
