Zunheboto Forest Division observes WED 2011

Zunheboto, June 14 (MExN): Zunheboto Forest Division observed World Environment Day with the theme “Forest-Nature at Your Service” at Aghunato Sub-division. A press release stated that the programme was hosted by Deputy Inspector of School Aghunato on the invitation of Eastern Sumi Student Union (ESSU) body. About 300 delegates attended the function comprising of Eco-Clubs and Teacher I/C’s Town GBs, DBs and Students from Schools. It was chaired by G. Zhekuto Zhimomi, DFO with Akato Sumi, Addl Deputy Commissioner as chief guest.
There was placards/slogans competition participated by all the attending Schools. Some of the slogans inscribed on their banners were “ Protect the natural Environment; have compassion on all living creatures ” from Mount Shepherd School,  “ My Earth ; My responsibility ” from Eden Boarding School and another slogan from Don Bosco School was “ Solve Climate Change by Youth-Led Solution”. Among the schools competing for the best slogans and banners, Don Bosco School was adjudged the best as first and Eden Boarding School ranked second.
An essay competition on the topic “Climate Change and our responsibility to its affects” was won by Vitoka Cl.IX and Gracie Cl.IX, from Don Bosco School lifted first and second respectively with cash prizes along with a theme certificates, Papu Kumar Cl.X from Eden Boarding School Aghunato was adjudged third.
 Earlier, the programme started with an invocation prayer from Khehoyi Pastor Aghunato Town Baptist Church, followed by welcome and key note address from DFO Zunheboto. The highlight of the programme also included special theme songs from three schools. The Additional Deputy Commissioner was the main theme speaker of the program, who spoke on the present scenario of the global concern on climate change. Other speakers were, a teacher from GHSS Aghunato and president ESSU Inahoto Yeptho. The programme was pronounced with benediction by Khekaho Yeptho Pastor Nitomount and vote of thanks from Kakugha DIS Aghunato.
There was also distribution of seedlings to all the schools and Government Offices and Churches, volunteered by Eastern Sumi Students Union. ESSU also took responsible for supervision and implementation of the resolutions adopted last year on declaration of Community Reserves in every villages including ban on shooting, hunting and trapping of animals in the specified community reserves.
