Dimapur, July 2 (MExN): The one-man inquiry commission of the government looking into the April 11 Zunheboto rape case is in the district and today, held series of meetings with representatives of the Sumi Totimi Hoho, Sumi Hoho and the accused among others. Additional Commissioner KN Ngullie was constituted by the state governor on June 2 last after Nagaland Commissioner HK Khullu reportedly refused to take up the commission for some reasons.
A STH leader disclosed that a compiled statement was presented to the commission. “There was a sexual intercourse (between the accused and the victim)…that’s what I found out,” said Additional Commissioner KN Ngullie over the phone this evening. However, he said to be uncertain whether it was consensual or forced.
Ngullie said to have listened to the views of the concerned person and even noted the confessional statements of the accused. He maintained that there were no lapses on the part of the “civil administration” while dealing with the case. He refused to divulge further saying that he has to submit his report which will eventually reach the office of the state governor and the chief minister. The inquiry commission is supposed to look into the whole matter surrounding the rape incident such as whether there were any lapses on the part of the administration, the police and the judiciary. The case has been shrouded in an air of controversy especially after the Additional Sessions & District Judge of Zunheboto released the accused on interim bail, despite severe opposition from the Sumi Totimi Hoho, the main complainant taking up the case. The case even reached the ears of the Guwahati High Court, who transferred the case to Kohima.
Meanwhile, the Additional District & Sessions Judge of Kohima, Mayang Lima informed that the case has been scheduled to be heard on July 10 in Kohima. He disclosed that the bail to the five accused granted by the Additional District & Session Judge of Zunheboto, K CHophy, was rejected by the Guwahati High Court and that the case was transferred to the Kohima court.
