The 79th Independence Day celebration in Zunheboto on August 15 was marked by low public turnout after civil society organisations, schools and colleges abstained from participation in line with the resolution passed by the Five Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) to refrain from state government functions.
The formal programme at Public Ground was attended by Imkongmar, Advisor for Minority Affairs and Sericulture, as the special guest. The event began with the ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the Rashtriya Salute and National Anthem.

Only three contingents participated in the march-past - the DEF Zunheboto led by ABSI M Mongothung Lotha, the 8th NAP Battalion led by ABSI Kamugha Sema, and an Ex-Servicemen group led by Havildar Kiyeho Sema.
