12th Inter District Catch Them Young tourney begins

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 16 (MExN): The 12th Inter District ‘Catch Them Young’ Tournament 2019 was inaugurated by Advisor, Youth Resources & Sports, Er. Zale Neikha at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima on October 16.
Gracing the occasion as the Special Guest, Er. Zale said that the ‘Catch Them Young’ Tournament has now become a popular tag in the country today as it aim to discover the potential of the young sportsperson and nurture them for the future prospect. He said the initiative of Youth Resources & Sports department is to provide a platform for young sportspersons and athletes to develop and sharpen their skill to make them champions.
Lauding the sportspersons, Er. Zale said the ‘Catch Them Young’ Tournament was a right platform for them to know one own self and choose the right sport that suits them and also advised them to be dedication, disciple and never be complacent with small achievements but strive harder to become the best as sports in today’s world is an avenue for job opportunity and livelihood. Lauding the coaches, he said they should embrace the correct tactics and skill of the particular sport and relate them to the trainees and challenged the parents to change their old mindsets for a broader outlook by giving more opportunities to their children and allowing them to fulfill their dreams by being their guide and mentor.
Secretary, Youth Resources & Sports, Alun Hangsing in his exhortation said games and sports has become an important part for one’s upbringing as a lot of concentrations are put not only for physical but for all round development. He added that games and sports have now become an important medium to develop relationship and friendship between villages, district and even countries. He also acknowledged and encouraged the participants from all the districts of the state.
Director, Youth Resources & Sports Akumla Chuba, who chaired the programme in her welcome address said that the Catch Them Young Tournament was started way back in 1974 with the motto “Catch them young and teach them right” with only football and athletics as the only games and sports played but today the department has taken the initiative to include wrestling, boxing badminton and taekwondo in the coming years.
A total of 290 participants which includes 215 boys and 75 girls from the eleven teams representing all the districts of the state are partaking in this 3-day sports tournament.
