136 new Community Health Officers appointed across Nagaland

Kohima, September 12 (MExN): A five-day induction of the 136 newly appointed Community Health Officers (CHOs) of the 4th, 5th, and 6th batch started on September 12 at the Capital Convention Hall, Kohima. 

The Community Health Officers will be appointed against different Ayushman Bharat- Health & Wellness- Sub Centers across the State. Till now including the recent 4th, 5th, and 6th batches there are 298 Community Health Officers appointed for Health & Wellness Centers (HWC) across the State of Nagaland.

A DIPR report stated that, while addressing the newly inducted CHOs, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Nagaland, Dr Thorhusie Katiry mentioned that CHOs are the caregiver to the community under their jurisdiction and so their first goal is to provide quality health care to the people. He requested them to live in harmony with the village people wherever they are posted and create an enabling environment in and around their Health & Wellness Center, stated a DIPR report. 

The State Program Officer, Dr Mereninla Senlem, NHM, Nagaland too stated that the CHOs have a great responsibility toward the people in the villages in providing access to equitable, affordable & quality health care services that are accountable and responsive to people's needs. She also mentioned that the CHOs in their HWC should not only provide Reproductive Child Health and Non-Communicable Disease services but also all the vertical programmes under National Health Mission.

The training will go on till September 16 comprising sessions on Maternal Health, Child Health, Non-Communicable Diseases, TB, Palliative Care, Blindness Control program, Oral Health, Mental Health, Adolescents Health Etc.
