A 15 year-old boy, who went missing on July 30, was found dead on August 3. Describing it as a kidnap and murder, the police said that 5 men have been arrested in connection to the case.

According to the police, the boy’s father started receiving ransom calls from the night of July 30 following which the father lodged a police complaint the next day. In the investigation that followed, 2 persons were arrested around noon on August 1.

The duo was captured after they were lured out to collect a ransom of Rs. 2 lakh they were demanding for the release of the boy.

The police said that the duo’s movement was tracked using “technical surveillance.” It led to the arrest of three other accomplices the same evening. The three were arrested from the village with the help of villagers, the police added.   In the interrogation that followed, the police said that the five confessed to murdering the boy and disposing the body on the night of July 30 and began to ransom his father over phone. The body was recovered today from within the village based on their confession. Their identities were withheld by the police citing security concerns.

Deputy Home Minister, Y Patton meanwhile issued a statement condemning the incident and urged law enforcing agencies to investigate the case thoroughly. “The gruesome and barbaric act of the accused person should be dealt with an iron hand and befitting punishment be given to the criminals so as to act as deterrence in the society as per the law of the land," he said, while extending condolences to the bereaved family.
