Kohima,March 1 (MExN): A valedictory programme of the ‘Mid-Career Training for Nagaland Civil Service (NCS) Officers’ was held on February 27 at the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) with V Shashank Shekhar, Additional Chief Secretary & Agriculture Production Commissioner and Director General, ATI, as the special guest.
The two-week training programme was attended by 20 officers, including Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) and Extra Assistant Commissioners (EACs).
Sharing their experiences, the officer trainees described the programme as enriching, refreshing and insightful, stating that it had instilled in them greater confidence and a renewed sense of commitment to public service.
In their group presentation, the trainees highlighted key governance issues in their respective workplaces. They underscored the need for capacity building and training on roles and responsibilities for government employees as well as village-level functionaries. They also stressed the importance of up-skilling youths for employment, improving sectors such as education and health, and ensuring better dissemination and effective implementation of government welfare schemes to make them outcome-oriented.
Addressing the gathering, Shekhar said that while identifying problems is easy, the more important task is to propose practical solutions. He emphasised that the purpose of life should be to be useful to society and that individuals must be prepared to make sacrifices for others.
He further stated that civil servants bear the responsibility of taking the right decisions and actions for the welfare of citizens. Highlighting that developmental funds and welfare programmes are meant for the common people, he noted that implementation largely takes place at the district level. He therefore impressed upon the officers the importance of upholding ethical values in the discharge of their duties and avoiding corruption and nepotism.
The programme was chaired by Imlibenla Jamir, Deputy Director, ATI. A brief report on the training was presented by Asalie Lese, Deputy Secretary and Course Coordinator.
The valedictory function was also attended by Akunu S Meyase, IAS, Director ATI, along with officers and staff of ATI and EAC probationers. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from the chairperson.
