Weekly overview of cases
Nagaland has not reported COVID-19 deaths for three consecutive weeks, according to the IDSP’s weekly bulletin. The tally of COVID-19 fatalities stands at 78, excluding 10 other deaths that were classified as ‘not COVID related’ by the state COVID-19 death review committee.
The IDSP stated however emphasised on the need for vaccination to boost immunity among the population stating that the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to go on for years.
“The threat may not be felt by the general population acutely as other countries or states due to lesser deaths and cases but the world is too interconnected and we may have sustained deaths and hospitalizations unless vaccines come in the way,” it stated in the weekly bulletin.
It further cautioned that constant travel and connectivity could translate into a spurt of cases and deaths unless population immunity is achieved through vaccines.
The bulletin also informed that 6,311 beneficiaries have been vaccinated with the Covishield vaccine across the state and no adverse events needing medical intervention have been reported in the state.
Presenting an overview of cases over the past week, the bulletin informed that 38 cases were reported from the past week.
It also stated that weekly sample positivity rate slightly increased from 2 to 4 % from the past week, with the maximum category of cases from the traced contacts/self test category.
“Positivity remains high at Flu Clinics/ self-tests who come for testing without any history of contact like people who have symptoms, for travel/other medical treatment constituting about 15 per cent of all cases from the community,” it added.
Recovery rate of 97 per cent is same as India’s recovery rate, the bulletin stated.
