35 teams from Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya confirms participation

Thirty five teams from Nagaland, Manipur and Meghalaya have confirmed their participation for the forthcoming 22nd NSF Martyrs Memorial Trophy 2022 under the aegis of Angami Students' Union (ASU), commencing from October 7 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima with the theme “Goal for peace.”
Out of 35 teams, 26 are from Kohima districts, four from Chümoukedima district, two from Phek district, two from Manipur and one from Meghalaya, organizing committee convenor Zekuseto Natso, informed a press conference at ASU office on October 4.
Shillong Lajong FC from Meghalaya, a reputed I League Team has already confirmed their participation in this 22nd Edition, Natso said.
ASU secretary games and sports Thejalhoukho Thomas Khawakhrie informed that the tournament will continue till October 29.
The inaugural match and from Quarter Final till the grand Finale will be night matches, he said adding that preliminary round matches will be played during day time.
This trophy is organised in honour of two comrades late Kekuojalie Sachü of Kohima village and late Vikhozo Yhoshii of Kigwema village who were victims to the indiscriminate firing of the armed police from Alichen when the students fraternity on the 22nd March 1986 were on a peaceful duty call to the extension of disturbed area belt from 5Km to 20Km along the Indo Myanmar border and against the induction of Indian Police Service (IPS) cadres into the state of Nagaland.
In exercise to honour and keep alive the supreme sacrifices made by the two comrades, the Angami Students Union organised the trophy annually in memory of the two martyrs and this year it will be the 22nd edition.
Azo to grace inaugural prog
The inaugural match of the 22nd edition will kick off on October 7 at 4: 30 pm.
Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, Leader of NPF Legislature Party & Co-Chairman UDA will grace the inaugural function.
The opening match will be played between the last year edition champion Head Hunters and Tholevi FC.
Also an addition to this, for every match starting from the kick off till the grand finale there will be an award for player of the match who will be awarded a special souvenir specifically designed for this category.
There will be free entry for spectators for the inaugural match. Entry fee of Rs. 50 will be charged till preliminary round and Rs. 100 from quarter finals to grand finale.
Chakhroma Students’ Union (CSU) will take care of ground management.
Meanwhile, technical briefing will take place on October 6 at 3:30 PM at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima. Either Team Coach or Team manager has to be there, according to ASU.
