Dimapur, March 3 (MExN): The Graduation Day of Solar Sakhi – Batch 3, organised by ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), Planning and Development Office (PDO) of the Salesian Province of Dimapur was held at Don Bosco Campus, Dimapur on March 3.

The three-month training programme, aimed at empowering women with technical skills in solar energy, entrepreneurship and leadership, stated a press release.

The programme began with a prayer led by Rev Fr Nebu Mathew SDB, Rector of Don Bosco Campus, followed by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.

In his welcome note, Rev Fr Dr Roy George SDB, Executive Director and Chief Functionary of AIDA, welcomed the gathering and congratulated the trainees on completing the course. He stated that the Solar Sakhi programme not only imparts technical knowledge but also nurtures confidence, responsibility and leadership among women.

He explained that the initiative equips rural women with skills in solar installation, maintenance and basic entrepreneurship, enabling them to become self-reliant clean energy entrepreneurs and agents of sustainable development in their communities. He encouraged the graduates to utilise their training to establish their own ventures and serve as role models by bringing clean and affordable energy solutions to their villages.

The special guest, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr Tinojongshi Chang appreciated AIDA for organising skill-based training programmes aligned with the vision of the Government of India and the Government of Nagaland on women empowerment.

Highlighting the growing importance of renewable energy, the DC noted that government subsidy schemes support solar initiatives, with beneficiaries receiving up to 90% subsidy and contributing only 10%. He also referred to the buy-back policy for surplus solar power, which enables households to generate additional income.

Assuring support from the district administration, he encouraged the trainees to confidently apply their skills and explore available financial assistance and loan facilities.

Dr Bibiana Lungbila, HR Manager and Director, Training and Programmes, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme also included cultural presentations, distribution of certificates to the graduates and the presentation of the Best Solar Sakhi Award.
