Amid the surge of COVID-19 infections in Nagaland, the District Hospital in Dimapur reported three deaths on April 24. According to sources, the deceased were two males and one female COVID-19 patients admitted in the Dimapur District Hospital.
An official of the Dimapur District Hospital informed The Morung Express, that the patients were “very ill” by the time they arrived at the hospital. Their oxygen saturation was also very low (below 40), the official added.
One of the deceased, a 39-year old male reportedly from West Bengal was admitted in the wee hours on April 24 but passed away within a few hours. The other male patient, (49 years) who was initially admitted in the COVID ward, was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as his health deteriorated. He passed away at around 10:30 pm on Friday.
Meanwhile, the female patient aged 40, who was admitted to the hospital on April 23, passed away early morning on Saturday.
The hospital official informed that while the deceased were COVID-19 patients, the cause of their death will be ascertained after review by the State COVID-19 Death Review Committee.
114 new COVID-19 cases in Nagaland
The COVID-19 surge continues to affect Nagaland as the state reported 114 new positive cases on Saturday, crossing the 13,000 threshold.
Dimapur reported the highest number of cases with 101, Phek-7, Kohima-4, while Mokokchung reported 2 new cases.
According to the daily bulletin issued by the state health department’s Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), 52 of the new cases were from traced contacts, 54 from travellers/returnees and the remaining 8 from armed forces/security personnel.
With this, the total number of infections in the state stands at 13,003, out of which 12,117 have recovered and 555 are active cases. Out of the active cases, 473 are reportedly asymptomatic, 64 are mild symptomatic, 14 moderate on oxygen while 4 are said to be severe on oxygen.
