The 31st edition of Sümi Patriots Day was observed at Alahuto Colony Junction in Zunheboto on Monday, with the participation of Sümi civil society organisations, community leaders and national workers.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman of the Zunheboto Town GB Association, Kiyexu Chishi, said the observance was dedicated to honouring the sacrifices made by Sümi patriots for the Naga people and urged younger generations to draw inspiration from their commitment and service.
He said working for the welfare of society was greater than pursuing individual interests and called on the people to contribute towards the betterment of the community so that society could take pride in their efforts.
Explaining the significance of the occasion, Chishi said the observance is held on the death anniversary of General Kaito as a collective tribute to all Sümi patriots. As it is not possible to commemorate every patriot individually, the community has chosen to honour them together through a floral tribute, symbolising unity, one mindset, one goal and one decision.
The programme was chaired by Sümi Hoho Vice President Kikheto Muru.
National workers and representatives of various civil society organisations offered floral tributes during the observance.
A special prayer was led by Rev Inakhu Chishi, Pastor of Zunheboto Town Sümi Baptist Church, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Sümi Hoho Joint Secretary Kivika Zhimo.
