Nagaland have 33 National Highways, approved and sanctioned by Ministry of Road Transports & Highways (MoRTH), out of which 11 roads are under NH (NPWD), 13 under NHIDCL and 9 under BRTF (BRO).

Nagaland’s chief minister Neiphiu Rio conveyed this message of Nagaland’s deputy chief minister TR Zeliang (minister in-charge of National Highways) at the assembly session today as the later could not make to the session on health ground.

Many projects fail to get sanction in time while some becomes a failure due to some factors of “our own creation within the state,” according to TR Zeliang.

First of all, the issue of landowners not allowing even for survey and preparation of DPR and somewhere dispute in diversion of alignment by land owners including elected members who differ their opinion from technical team/consultant appointed by highest authority regarding alignment, Zeliang stated.

Some projects get delayed due to differences between land owners and contractors thus leading to none compliance of Contract Agreement.

In this, the department of NH (NPWD) has taken corrective measures in order to solve this issue, such as to give a reasonable time to resolve land owners issue and in case if it is not resolved within a certain period the project will be foreclosed.

And also if the contractor of any packages in a project fails to follow chainage or milestone, the Contract Agreement will be terminated, according to TR Zeliang.

In message, Zeliang requested all the members on behalf of all the implementing agencies, to cooperate with the implementing agencies “and together we can improve the road sector in the state which is utmost important.” Government of the day is trying its best to complete all the sanctioned National Highway projects within the stipulated time (rescheduled with deadline).”

Zeliang stated that the state is hoping to get more National Highways to be declared, for which a team of Ministers and some officials led by chief minister met union minister and prime minister and apprised them.

With the cooperation of all the elected members I assure all of you that together we can transform the face of our state within this 5 years term, Zeliang stated in his message.
