The 38th General conference of the Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (OKM) (Ongpangkong Students' Conference) was held at Town hall Mokokchung on January 28.
17 achievers in the field of academics and competitive examinations were conferred with the OKM Achievers’ Award during the formal programme.
Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung Limawabang Jamir, who was the chief guest at the conference urged the students to promote and develop the Ao language so that it will inspire the next generation to take keen interest in one’s language, stating that when language is lost, a tribe is lost.
He also said that the world needs humble and responsible citizens, who can sustain and employ themselves even without an educational degree. He further encouraged the students to work towards bringing about a holistic change in all fields of life.

A panel discussion was held on the topic ‘Renewing Mindsets for A thriving Society’, with Akok Walling as the moderator and Khreho Athili, Lead District Bank Manager, Mokokchung and Longleng, S Amarjit Mangang, DDM, NABARD, Mokokchung and Dr B M Sunep, Chief AH & Veterinary Officer,Mokokchung as the panelists.
In the last session of the conference, Dr Awala Temshi, Administrator, Straightway Christian Mission Centre Mokokchung was the main speaker who spoke on the topic ‘Youth with Integrity for Holistic Change’.
Limaonen Imchen, Covenor, Planning Committee delivered the vote of thanks and the conference concluded with handing and taking over of the new office bearers.
In adherence to the SOPs laid down by the Government, only 100 delegates were invited from 17 village units and two sub-units of the OKM and the conference was organized with strict observation of the SOPs.
