Dimapur, December 15 (MExN): As of December 5, a total of 48 vehicles were registered in Nagaland under the new registration mark "Bharat (BH) series,” informed data provided by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
Based on digitised records in VAHAN 4.O, a total of 49,696 have been registered under the BH series, added the written reply given by the MoRTH Minister Nitin Jairam Gadkari in the Lok Sabha on December 15.
The Ministry in order to facilitate seamless transfer of vehicles all over the country, has issued notification dated August 25, 2021 regarding the incorporation of the BH series in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, it said.
Thereafter, it came into force on September 15, 2021.
It has been introduced for citizens working in Government offices or in private organisations with offices in four or more States/UTs, on voluntary basis, it added.
On a related query on whether Government proposes to allow plying of the vehicles registered in any State all over the country by making one nation one registration policy based on Aadhaar and if so, the Ministry said that the implementation of Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 is under the purview of the State Governments/UT administration.
Meanwhile, as per the reply, applicants, working in Government offices, can avail BH Series facility on the basis of their official ID Card.
Private Sector employees are required to submit a working certificate, certifying that their organisation has offices in 4 or more States/UTs.
Currently, only new vehicles are being registered under the BH Series. However, Ministry has issued a draft notification October 4, 2022 to amend the rules governing Bharat (BH) series registration mark.
As per the notification, vehicles having regular registration mark can also be converted to BH Series registration mark subject to payment of requisite tax for eligible citizens and to facilitate persons who subsequently become eligible for BH Series registration mark.
