Zunheboto, December 17 (MExN): A 72 year old man has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a minor girl in Zunheboto.
A press release from the Public Prosecutor, Zunheboto informed that Special Judge, POCSO Act, Zunheboto, Ajongba Imchen convicted the accused of 72 year old to undergone 20 years rigorous imprisonment under section 376(3) IPC R/W 4 POCSO Act for rape of one minor girl.
“Accordingly maximum victim compensation was awarded to the victim under the Victim Compensation Scheme,” the press release informed.
The case pertains to the rape of a minor girl in a village under Zunheboto district in 2018. An FIR was lodged on September 21, 2018 and case was registered at the Zunheboto Police Station.
The judge, in his order dated December 14, stated: “considering the entire facts and circumstances, this court is satisfied that the prosecution has proved beyond any reasonable doubt that accused committed an offences punishable u/s. 4 (2) of POCSO Act, 2012 and Section 376 (3) of the IPC, 1860. Hence, the accused is held guilty and convicted for committing offences punishable u/s. 4 (2) of the POCSO Act, 2012 and Section 376 (3) of the IPC, 1860.”
The sentencing for the accused was pronounced on December 17.
