Wokha, November 4 (MExN): The indefinite agitation by civil society organisations (CSOs) of the Sungro Range over an acute shortage of teachers and non-teaching staff at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Sungro entered its third day on Wednesday, with the institution remaining locked.

Students and village councils continued the protest, demanding immediate appointment of adequate teaching and non-teaching staff. The agitators alleged that the prolonged shortage has severely affected academic activities and jeopardised the future of students.

The agitation is likely to intensify following support from the Lotha Middle Range Students’ Union (LMRSU), which backed the demand at a press conference on November 3 and stated the issue as one of urgent concern.

The union demanded that the authorities concerned resolve the matter within 48 hours. It warned that it would be compelled to intensify its democratic protests if no concrete action is taken within the stipulated period.

The LMRSU said that ensuring adequate staffing at the institution is essential to safeguard the educational rights and future prospects of students in the area.
