As the plight of unemployment among youths becomes a greater challenge every passing year, a recent government data revealed that there were 76,354 job seekers in Nagaland as on June 30, 2022.
This was according to the State Directorate of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship’s consolidated statement of job seekers remaining on the live register of employment exchange. The data further mentioned that the total number of registered job seekers among males (52,206) was higher compared to females (24,148). These include 11,880 males and 9734 females with graduate degrees.
For post-graduates, the ratio is higher among females which stand at 3524 compared to 2666 males. Among technical degree holders, 416 were males while 177 were females.
Meanwhile, in a separate report for Dimapur, the most populated district in Nagaland and dubbed the State’s commercial capital, there were 29,589 registered job seekers as on September, 2022, comprising of 18,417 males and 11,172 females. Majority of those registered were graduate degree holders at 10,674, while 3022 were post-graduates. It also included were 4577 individuals who were under-matric, 4592 matriculate and 5672 pre-university at level (10-2). In addition, there were 842 technical degree holders and 210 diploma holders.
Interestingly, the recent data showed a significant decline in the number of job seekers compared to the years 2019 and 2020. There were 90,584 applicants during 2019, which further came down to slightly to 85,397 applicants in 2020.
