Assam Rifles conducts security review, health outreach programmes

Dimapur, June 28 (MExN): Senior officials of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, state police and intelligence agencies reviewed the security situation in Upper Assam, South Arunachal Pradesh and adjoining areas of Nagaland during a quarterly Operational Group Meeting held at Lekhapani on June 27.

The meeting, held under the aegis of the Spear Corps and the Directorate General of Assam Rifles, brought together formation commanders of Assam Rifles, Army representatives from Upper Assam and senior police officials from the three states to strengthen inter-agency coordination and review prevailing security challenges.

Discussions focused on assessment of ground intelligence, enhancement of real-time information sharing and alignment of operational priorities. Participants also reviewed insurgent group activities, cross-border dynamics and measures to strengthen surveillance and area domination in vulnerable areas.

 

With Independence Day approaching, the meeting emphasised the need for heightened vigilance and preparedness.

According to Assam Rifles, the meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of a joint operational framework, improved interoperability and streamlined coordination protocols to enable a swift response to emerging security challenges.

Separately, Assam Rifles conducted Pulse Polio immunisation drives in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland on Sunday as part of the nationwide campaign.

In Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), organised the immunisation drive in collaboration with the District Hospital, Changlang.

 

The vaccination programme was conducted at Yongchik and Battalion Headquarters, Changlang, where a total of 131 children, including 59 boys and 72 girls, were administered oral polio vaccine.

Medical teams from the District Hospital, assisted by Assam Rifles personnel, carried out the vaccination drive.

Meanwhile, Assam Rifles also organised a Pulse Polio immunisation drive at Garrison Hospital in Kohima, where 41 children below five years of age received oral polio vaccine.

 

Medical personnel also educated parents and guardians on the importance of completing the recommended immunisation schedule and ensuring regular health check-ups for children.

According to Assam Rifles, the initiatives were conducted in support of the Government of India's Universal Immunisation Programme and the National Pulse Polio Programme to sustain the country's polio-free status while strengthening healthcare outreach in border and remote areas.
