7th Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship on Sept 27-28

The 7th edition of Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship jointly organized by Fountain Club and SCERT Nagaland will be held on September 27 and 28 at Capital Convention Centre Kohima under the theme "The Learning Edge."  

Announcing this in a press conference here today, SCERT Director T Sekhose said the event is a co-scholastic opportunity for the students which is also a platform to come together in the atmosphere of friendly rivalry. He said an important aspect of the competition is interface between the government and private schools. He encouraged both the government and private schools across the state to join the event.  

Event Convenor, Medo Yhokha highlighted the activities of the club and said the club had earned accolade over the years and were also trying to improve to take the activities forward. He also stated that for the 7th edition, the competition will be held for the students from Class 6 to 10 adding that two students from each school can participate in the event.  

The objective of this championship is to inculcate and to stimulate young students to develop the habit and love for reading with the philosophy that understanding the origin and meaning of words clearly is the key to learning and acquiring knowledge. It also aims to provide a platform to the students to meaningfully engage in the use of English for command over their academic syllabus and the confidence in communication both in written and verbal. Other objectives are to improve language competency by exposing the students to variety of books, prints and non-print medias, to enhance the students memory and retention capabilities and to sharpen their reflective capacities.  

Yhokha said that Rs. 1.59 lakhs cash awards have been earmarked for the different categories of prizes while an added attraction will be the Young Speller Award 2018. He said the winner will win a cash of Rs. 60,000, citation and trophy followed by Rs. 40,000, Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 15,000 for 2nd, 3rd and 4th place respectively. Four quarter finalists will also receive Rs. 5000 each with citation. The young speller award will carry Rs. 4000 along with citation.  

The organizer extended invitation to all the schools in the state, both government and private to participate in the competition. One can download forms from www.fountainclub.in and can also avail from all DIET centres in respective districts and from the government and private school associations as well.
