
DIMAPUR, JUNE 8 (MExN): Dimapur police on June 7 arrested nine individuals in separate incidents for crimes related to kidnapping, illegal tax collection, extortion and possession of illegal weapons.
In one of the incidents, the police cracked a kidnapping case, while successfully rescuing the hostage and arresting three persons, including a woman. A press release from the Additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur stated that one Nuramin Hague, a construction worker, was abducted on June 6 with the kidnappers subsequently demanding a ransom of Rs. 60, 000 for his release. The hostage was however rescued the next day from a house reportedly belonging to a cadre of the GPRN/NSCN in Purana Bazaar. The cadre, identified as Ato Aye (38 years) was arrested along with two others, who were identified as Rostum Ali (60 years) and Salaikha Khatoon (40 years).
In another incident, two persons were arrested in connection with a ‘vegetable syndicate racket.’ The two accused, Gauri Shanker (32 years) and Jialal Prasad (45 years) were said to be the ‘main tax collectors and syndicate partners of the vegetable dealership syndicate’. It was disclosed by the accused that they collect tax from vegetable retailers under the patronage of some “underground functionaries.” The underground connection is under investigation.
“Incriminating documents along with list of shops and tax collection records were seized from their possession,” stated the ASP in the press release, while adding that police are investigation the involvement of others in the ‘dealership syndicate’.
The same day, two persons reported to be cadres of the NSCN (IM) were arrested from Lengrijan for extorting from autorickshaw drivers. The arrested cadres, identified as ‘SS Pvt’ Imtimatsung (21 years) and ‘SS Pvt’ Purngangshi (33 years) were extorting Rs. 500 each from autorickshaws plying in the area. Cash amounting to Rs. 4380 was also confiscated from their possession.
Further, two illegal firearms and ammunition were confiscated during the day from two individuals in separate incidents. The recovered firearms included a 9mm pistol and a .32 pistol. One of the accused was identified as T.S Ngamlal Anal (32 years), who was arrested from Purana Bazaar during routine security frisking conducted by the police. Police confiscated from his possession the 9mm pistol along with six rounds. The car driven by him also impounded. The .32 pistol was recovered from one Siddique Ali (38 years) from a house in Naga United Village by the 29 Assam Rifles.
