A crime to deny FLWs their salaries: NPP Nagaland

Dimapur, May 30 (MExN): The NPP Nagaland State on Sunday took the state government and the Health and Family Welfare department to task over the delay in payment of salaries for newly appointed doctors and frontline workers (FLWs).

“It is ridiculously appalling how the ones who are putting their lives on hold to save numerous lives are actually being denied of their own rights to earn a livelihood. It is in fact, a crime to deny them their salaries,” the party stated in a press release issued by its IPR & Media Cell.

On the recent revelations of the grievances of the newly appointed doctors and frontline workers not getting their deserving due salary on time, NPP Nagaland State questions the State Government and as to why such despicable treatments are being given to the ones who are bravely facing the heat of the pandemic at the brink of risking their lives and sacrificing their comforts for the cure of our entire society at large.

“So many doctors are posted elsewhere and are away from their families; they not only have the responsibility of their families but the weight of the community’s health welfare is on their shoulder as well,” it said, while emphasising that frontline workers should actually be the first ones to be given their remunerations. “We stand together with all the doctors and frontline workers and demand immediate action towards this unruly treatment on the Government’s end,” the release stated.

Further, the party asserted that “if the current Government is incapable and unable to handle the recurrent crisis, it is better to step down with grace and give way for those who can and are willing to do so.” It also suggested that “if those sitting at high power are not able to empathize with the sufferings of our frontline workers, they should ask the civil society to step forward in aid,” as there are many who are willing to give free will donation and contribute in easing the grievances of the frontline workers “provided the funds are not misused and has full accountability.”

The party also expressed scepticism over the state government’s measures to handle the various loopholes of lockdown and questioned if the government is coming up with constructive measures to help the needy. “The daily wage earners have no doubt been extremely burned from the crisis of this pandemic lockdown and for that matter, is the Government looking after their needs?” it questioned.

Stating that it is irrational of the State Government to blame the crises on the virus while doing nothing in their power to help the needy ones, the NPP expressed hope that the arising problems would be taken into serious consideration by the State Government and solved immediately.

The NPP meanwhile acknowledged the frontline workers for their relentless services as well as the NGOs, civic bodies, institutions and individuals who are going out of their way in helping the society in their own capacity and free will donations.
