A voice of concern on vaccination

Dear Chief Minister of Nagaland & Chairman, High Power Committee for COVID Nagaland, Kohima,

I, the undersigned as a bonafide citizen of Nagaland Sate, I am constrained to express my liberty and pen down this article in regards to the recent unethical order issued by state government order vide No. NSDMA-ER-COVID 19/30/2020(Part-II)/5515, Kohima dated 17th July 2021 for “imposing forceful COVID vaccination” to lakh of state government employees and besides demanding COVID-19 negative test report after every 15 days on self expenses from the employees who are not vaccinated and thereby threatening to stop their salaries w.e.f 31st July 2021 is absolutely unethical and uncalled for on the part of the government.

It is a clear violation of International human rights, and hence directly challenging Article 21 Right to Life and personal liberty enshrined under the constitution of India. The Department of Health and Family welfare Govt of India and subsequent High Court judgment has clearly stated that “vaccination is purely voluntarily.”

Wherein, WHO preamble defines that Human health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and the enjoyment of highest attainable standard fundamental human rights without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition. “Individual freedom includes the right to control one's health and body, free from any interference.” Meanwhile, violation or lack of attention to human rights can cause serious health consequence.

Therefore, in the interest of the public and to comply with international human rights standards and further establishing a better rule of law in our state, I humbly request the State Government to revoke the said order and also to provide free COVID testing in our state.

Anticipating your positive response.

Meren Pongen Naga
