ABAM rally in Mkg for total prohibition act

Mokokchung, February 28 (DIPR): Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) the Ao Baptist Church Council has reaffirmed its stand against use of alcohol and drugs describing that it is the root cause of social evils. A massive rally was organized under the themes “Rescue” at Mokokchung town today, the 28th February 2012 to voice its concern over use of alcohol and drugs where representatives from all churches under ABAM attended the rally.

A press note issued during the rally stated that use of alcohol and drugs has gone beyond control, which the ABAM termed as unfortunate and cautioned that ‘our people are marching towards a doom’. Acknowledging the government’s effort to implement the ‘Nagaland Total Prohibition Act 1989’ the ABAM reaffirmed its commitment to fully implement the act and assured to work together with the state government to ensure that the act is implemented effectively.

During the rally the ABAM has come up with 5 (Five) ambitious strategies to eradicate the use of alcohol and drugs within 10 (Ten) years. The five strategies are: organize prayer, walk, meeting seminar occasionally, formation of ‘Social concern committee in every local church under ABAM, encourage government to implement the Act, educate through literature (press releases and books) and impart education through statistics (data collection and analysis).

The rally chaired by Reverend Ponen, Pastor, Mokokchung Town Baptist Church was addressed by Executive Secretary ABAM, Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger, Ao Senden President, Dr. Sangyu Yaden and Chairman, All Ward Union, Mokokchung town, Watimongba. 

After the rally a memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, urging the government to implement the Act effectively and assuring full support by the ABAM in its implementation.
