‘Access to Justice for All’ – Mega legal services camp in Mon Town

Mon, August 25 (MExN): A mega legal services camp was organized by Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) and Mon District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) in collaboration with 38 departments, NGOs, and stakeholders at Local Ground, Mon Town on August 25. It was held under the theme ‘Access to Justice for All’.

Justice Songkhupchung Serto, Judge, Gauhati High Court in the inaugural speech talked about principle of justice. Justice, he opined, is central to happy living and without it people cannot be happy. “Justice is the way of life and when one is fair with each other justice exists,” he was quoted as saying in a press release issued by NSLSA.

Serto lauded the effort of NSLSA, MDLSA, stakeholders and the Deputy Commissioner in bringing the departments together for providing to public their entitlements. He appealed to the Head of Departments under the leadership of the DC to ensure people get their entitlements and also render best services to the society.

Thavaseelan K (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Mon said the camp is a classic example of paradigm shift where government departments are coming to the public instead of public going to them. “This is the perfect opportunity for the public to get all the services of the department under one roof which is a first of a kind in the district,” he added. The DC further assured that the process will continue under his guidance even in the near future.   Short speech was also delivered by Awan Konyak, Chairperson, Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Earlier, keynote address was delivered by Mezivolu T Therieh, NJS, Member Secretary NSLSA, while welcome address was delivered by Inalo Zhimomi, NJS, District and Sessions Judge and Chairman MDLSA.

The gathering was enthralled by special folk fusion from Mon Theological College. Chaired by MV Patton, Judicial Magistrate First Class and Secretary MDLSA, the camp registered 2703 beneficiaries through real time registration, informed the press release. They were given awareness on benefits and schemes in various government and banking sectors.

On the same day, Justice Songkhupchung Serto inaugurated a community library at Mon Town Students’ Union office under the initiative of NSLSA and Sarvahitey Library Project, New Delhi. More than 1000 books on various topics were provided in the library by Sarvahitey. The NSLSA provided furniture, while the Deputy Commissioner, Mon donated book rack towards the library.

Two mini legal services camps were also organized by NSLSA and MDLSA in coordination with Labour department, Government of Nagaland in Naginimora and Mon Town under Mon district on August 23 and 24.
