The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) today said it will urge elected representatives of the State to address the Foothill Road project and border area affairs in the upcoming assembly session.
During a consultative meeting with all the elected members of the 11 tribes and Tribal Hohos here at Japfü Hotel today, the committee informed The Morung Express that one core agenda was to press upon the MLAs to raise the issue of the Foothills Road project (now christened as Trans Nagaland Expressway) during the forthcoming Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) sessions.
“The mega project is at the table of the Prime Minister’s Office. But we feel that it may take sometime,” Supu Jamir, Convener of the NFHRCC was quoted saying. He said that in the meantime, the Nagaland Government has to “construct motorable road before the onset of monsoon while awaiting the mega project.”
It also added that the committee has resolved to write a letter to the NLA Speaker to “include the project as public business agenda during the assembly sessions.”
The Convener also expressed that it was “imperative for the elected members specially the border MLAs to constitute a committee to look into the affairs of the border areas vis-a-vis the foothill agenda.” Towards this, the convener added that it will urge the government to set up the Border Committee of elected members at the earliest.
Among other issues, the NHFRCC said it will take initiative in bringing the Doyang Bridge to completion. While informing that 70.66% of the work has been completed till date, the committee said that “the Doyang Bridge has to be completed by the end of working session 2021.
“The work has to be done in consultation with the committee and tribal hohos for ensuring quality workmanship,” it added.
