Workers undertaking renovation works on the Mon-Longwa border road.

MON, NOVEMBER 11 (MExN): After a span of 14 years, road renovation works along the Mon-Longwa border road began on November 9 from 0-Point Longwa Village.
A press release from the Longwa Students’ Union (LSU) stated that the road is a lifeline of not only Longwa village but also of Nyahnyu village, Longwa Wasa village, Phomching Town, Longzang village and many other villages in and around. The works are being carried out by the Border Roads Organisation.
The LSU informed that a major portion of the Mon-Longwa road, which was constructed in 2005-2007, is in a very bad shape. “Respective renovations were done to the road stretch between Mon Town to Tangnyu village, but the rest of the stretch which covers an approximate of over 20-25 kilometres (Between Tangnyu Village and Longwa Village) was routinely ignored ever since the construction,” the union stated.
As a result, the people of Longwa had to face problems like hike in price of commodities and transportation fares; cases of accidents were often reported especially during rainy season.
The LSU informed that it had apprised the Officer Commanding of 100 RCC GREF Mon, Border Road Organization about the issue and several requests were made for immediate intervention.
“He responded in affirmative on looking into the problems and to work on it with all that he can under his charge. This kind act of the BRO shall ease the miseries of our people and we are truly indebted towards the organisation for the same,” the LSU stated.
It acknowledged the 100 RCC GREF, Mon under the leadership of Divya Vikas, Officer Commanding, “for not overlooking into the problems shared and for acting on their words.” The LSU also thanked Pohwang Konyak, MLA for 44 A/C Phomching, the Konyak Students’ Union and well-wishers for their support.
The LSU assured all cooperation to the organisation for the successful completion of the renovation works. “We also look forward to the good service of the BRO even in the days to come,” it added.
