Nagaland’s Director General of Police (DGP), Rupin Sharma stated that the State Police is ready to provide any assistance to the public within the framework of the law of the land.

Speaking to The Morung Express on the sidelines of a State-level workshop in Chümoukedima, the DGP was asked on the indefinite shutter down called by the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CNCCI) in support of its counter-part in Dimapur against multiple taxation, harassment and summons by Naga Political Groups (NPGs).

Sharma viewed that the current grievances were not against the police but to the NPGs. As such, he maintained that the police is ready to stand up with any individual or group willing to approach them.

On being asked what directives has been received from the State administration, he said “the letter (from Home Commissioner to DGP Nagaland) has is clearly mentioned that this (illegal rampant collection of taxes) is not to be tolerated.”

As such, “This is against the law of the land and we will abide by the direction,” he added.
