Meanwhile reports have been pouring in from some close confidante in Mariani Assam saying that the Assamese people living in the border villages who are actively involved with the Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland) had been strongly opposing the move of the AASU. The people living in Bosagaon, Panchual, Kankhowa, Kalyanpur, Nagaon, New Sonowal, Jungle block etc have come out openly to thwart the AASU delegation right from the early hours. At one point of time, the villagers have challenged the delegation and using through PA equipment had asked Md. Niluffer Rehman, AASU’s State level Assistant General Secretary who was leading the procession to identify himself whether his grandfather’s name was there in the National Register of Citizens. The villagers argued that they are living peacefully in the border area since time immemorial and they have been maintaining a very healthy rapport with their counterpart and as such they cannot allow the invaders (AASU) to proceed to Longtho which will mar the prevailing traditional age old relation between the states. Expressing their dismay over the handling of the issue by the AASU, the villagers have even threatened to sue the AASU leaders for disrupting peace and also added that AASU active members from these areas have resigned en mass from the active membership of the AASU at a public meeting held at New Sonowal Forest Beat gate today at 3 pm. The villagers further warned that henceforth no organization shall be allowed to fiddle around in respect to the vexed border issue since the matter is now under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. It was also confirmed that Md. Niluffer Rehman, AASU’s State level Asst. Gen Secy, Bijoy Borah President and Secretary of Titabor Subdivisional Unit of AASU have gone into hiding since today’s misadventure of marching inside Nagaland was a flopped show as they were being sought by the public in Assam.

Realizing the ground reality and facts, in which the Assam-based villagers rendered support to foil the attempted incursion, the people of Mokokchung have also conveyed their heartfelt appreciation to the Assam villagers.
