The Akashvani Kohima, Prasar Bharati has launched the Pochury Programme at All India Radio, Kohima on June 1.
LK Mulony, ADP & Head of Programme, HOP thanked the Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting for the new programme addition and acknowledged the Director General of News Services Division, AIR, New Delhi whose visit to the state last year in October has been remarkable in ensuring the introduction of the language.
Mulony informed that the broadcast of the programme will begin from June 1 at 11:35 am in line with other language news bulletin for 15 minutes on all days of the week.
With the addition of Pochury language, the total number of language news broadcasted by Akashvani Kohima will be 15 local languages apart from the English and Nagamese news broadcast.
Siewatho S Nyusou, Vice President (Kohima based Pochury Hoho) said, “Pochury have many instances of being disregarded and not getting due recognition which were painful.” In the same line, the need for Pochury language news was a long felt dream. As such seeds were sown many years back 1994. He said it is a landmark day and it is also an assertion of identity.
Meanwhile, Director General Akashvani, Dr Vasudha Gupta in a message said, “this is a great achievement of Akashvani as we attach utmost importance to local languages for better and fruit communication.” She urged the Pochury people to be keen listeners of Akashavani programmes as they have a lot informative and life changing content.
Short speeches were also delivered by Programme Executive, Rachel Shimray, News Editor, Asonuo, and S Udaiyar, DDE/HoO.
The programme also called for constant feedback and suggestions to reach out to listeners at large. The programme was also attended by members from Pochury community.
The dedicatory prayer was delivered by Dr Z Mosa Tsang, Pastor, Pochury Baptist Church, Kohima and Programme Executive, Vemücho Chüzho was the leader of the programme and Programme Executive Abino Lasuh delivered the welcome address.
