All sporting activities in Nagaland controlled by ‘Cartel,’ alleges RPP

Dimapur, October 25 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) today alleged that while the State government makes “big noises” about developing sports, all the sporting activities in Nagaland are being controlled by a “Cartel of politicians and extra-constitutional authorities.

The recent spate between a retired DGP and his colleagues in the NOA (Nagaland Olympic Association) brought out this point precisely, the RPP maintained in a press release.

The NFA (Nagaland Football Association) voted against Bhaichung Bhutia in the recent AIFF presidential election “is also a good example of the cartel putting politics over sports, it said.

In this connection, the RPP vowed that if it ‘comes to power,’ the party will demolish “the cartel which has done nothing for sports in the State except giving lip-service.”

The RPP further noted that it would identify “core competent areas in sports” to be identified, pursued and developed in Nagaland.

For instance, during the RPP Walkathon around Nagaland, it was discovered that Mon district has much potential for sports, it claimed.

It further promised a ‘Sports Policy’ for the State, which among others, would provide for handling of sports administration will be handled by sports persons and streamlining all the sports associations under the NOA.

Special thrust will be on Shooting, Wrestling, Boxing, Cricket, other combat sports, Football, Badminton, and Archery, it added, while at least any two the disciplines would be made part of the “school curriculum as per the proficiency of the districts.”

Nagas in Olympics, a Special Vision 2032 will be unveiled and 3-5% of the state budget will be earmarked for sports, it further promised.

Under the policy, permit/license to start a school would not be given unless there is sufficient playground, the RPP said.

National level sportspersons will be honoured with job security either in the police or in the sports department, it said.

It also promised streamlining of TaFMA and handling all music and sports activities “directly” by the Directorate of Youth Resources & Sports.

A Hall of Fame for sportspersons will be set up and their accomplishments will be made part of the school curriculum, it added.
